Session Close

Where Nasdaq futures closed against yesterday's levels, the bias for the next session, and the price where that read is wrong. Every read is graded the next session: hit, miss or flat.

Reads graded—
Hit rate—
Up reads hit—
Down reads hit—

What this is: a read on the market, not a trade. No entries, no stops, nothing to buy or sell. A hit isn’t a winning trade and the hit rate isn’t a profit. It isn’t the record either: the record is the rules-only record, simulated, separate from my live account, in points. Hits — · misses — · flat — · bias overridden —. Flat counts against the hit rate. Neutral reads aren’t graded.

NQ read: Oct 22, 2026 close (bias down)

The session

NQ opened at 29,515.25, traded between 29,033.25 and 29,996.00, and settled at 29,142.00, down 865.00 points (2.88%) on the day. It broke yesterday’s low of 29,771.25 and stayed below it. It closed in the lower third of the day’s range.

What it means

That’s a down read for Fri, Oct 23. It stays down as long as price stays under 29,771.25 on 30-minute closes. The first level below is 28,512.75.

What I’m watching

Closed near the low of the day, under last week’s low (29,268.75) and the value area low (29,193.50). Down while price stays under the line; the weekly key low at 28,350 is the bigger level below.

How the read works

The same rules every day, on plain price levels. The rules decide the bias. If I ever read it differently, the report says so and the scorecard counts it.

» The rules
Bias upClosed above yesterday’s high and above today’s open
Bias downClosed below yesterday’s low and below today’s open
NeutralAnything else. No lean, nothing to grade
The read is wrongA 30-minute bar closes back through the line
Next levelsAt least as far from the close as the line
Graded next sessionHit, miss or flat. Every one stays up

The close is CME’s 4:00 PM ET settlement; today’s open is the 9:30 AM ET opening print. The line is yesterday’s high for an up read and yesterday’s low for a down read, unless the report names a different one. The first next level is the nearest marked level at least as far from the close as the line is (if there isn’t one, the same distance the other way), so a hit is never easier than a miss. A read is graded on the session right after its close, from the 6:00 PM ET reopen to the next 4:00 PM ET close, on 30-minute bars. Hit: price trades at or through the first next level, gaps included, before the read is wrong. Miss: a 30-minute bar closes beyond the line first; if both happen in the same bar, it’s a miss. Flat: neither. Friday’s read covers Sunday’s reopen to Monday’s close. I grade it from the chart in the next report.

Every read, graded

The table fills in once the first report is up.

The scorecard covers the latest 300 reads. Most people who day trade lose money. Education only, not investment advice. Nothing here tells you what to buy or sell.
