TradingView Bar Replay: How to Practice Day Trading After Hours
Short answer: Bar Replay is a TradingView feature that lets you pick a day in the past, hides everything after it, and plays the chart forward one candle at a time. It's the fastest way to practice day trading: you can rehearse a month of sessions in a weekend. On the free plan it works on daily charts and up; replaying intraday charts like the 5-minute needs a paid plan.
How to use it
- Open a chart on TradingView (affiliate link).
- Click Replay in the top toolbar.
- Click the point on the chart where you want to start. Everything to the right disappears.
- Press play, or use the step-forward button to move one candle at a time. You can change the speed.
- When you're done, click Replay again to jump back to today.
A practice routine that works
- Pick a random day so you can't remember what happened.
- Mark your levels before you press play, exactly as you would before a live session.
- Step one candle at a time around your trading window. When your setup appears, decide: entry, stop and target, before you click forward.
- Log every decision in your journal, marked "replay".
- Stop after five sessions. Tired practice builds bad habits.
Replay is practice, not proof
Trades taken in Bar Replay aren't saved to your paper trading account, and you always know you can't lose. Keep replay results separate from your live paper sessions. Replay builds the reps; live paper sessions are the test. Both are part of lesson 7 of the Paper Route.
Free or paid?
On the free plan you can replay daily charts, which is good for practicing how to read trend and levels. To replay the intraday charts you actually day trade on, you need a paid plan. If you're practicing every day, it's the most useful upgrade there is. See TradingView free vs paid.
Education only, not investment advice. Most people who day trade lose money. TradingView links on this page are affiliate links: if you sign up or upgrade, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Plan details change; check TradingView's pricing page for what's current.
